 Silk Threadwork saree

 

Silk thread work sarees are stunning in their own way and are unique to Kanchipuram silk sarees. Beautiful and subtle, they are sough after  for their elan and style and add a dash of panache to the traditional look. 

 

There is nothing more beautiful than an exquisite handwoven Kanchipuram silk saree painted in various shades of the rainbow with elegant motifs representing abundance and glittering borders with pure zaris. The delicate sarees are known for their lustre, the grace and the flowy drape and it is sheer poetry in silk. These resplendent silk sarees are an 

ode to the craftsmanship of the weavers. The very hallmark of an authentic Kanchipuram silk saree are the puri zari woven with red silk and silver thread and then dipped in gold, which add to the grandeur.

 

And yet there are silk threadwork silk sarees with the same skill and craftsmanship and are known for their elegance. They have their own delicate embellishments and have intricate patterns but the shimmering golden zaris are missing or replaced with unique patterns woven with different silk threads. In these silk thread work sarees which are also known as without zari sarees, the beauty lies in the simplicity and elegance. The threadwork sarees however have many unique designs and patterns and the lack of zari makes no difference, but only adds to the overall look. 

 

Despite the lack of the traditional golden zari with the glittering motifs, silk thread work sarees or without zari sarees as they are called have their own ornamentation using only silk threads. There may be minimal zari or no zari at all but the subtle designs add a touch of elegance and grace to the silk saree and create a contemporary twist to the traditional silk sarees. 

 

While most silk threadwork sarees do not have zaris, some have minimal zari work. In these threadwork sarees as they are referred there are zaris where the intricate patterns have been woven with different colour threads. The zari here is subtle and exquisite and have their own style. Here different colour threads are woven together instead of the traditional shimmering golden zari to create unique borders. You can find also a Plain Korvai Saree with a temple border woven with silk threads or a self border saree with small traditional motifs like Annam or Swan or a Manga or Mango also woven with silk threads. You can either find contrasting colours like in a Korvai Silk Saree or Self Border Saree with simple shades that adds to the understated but sophisticated and smart look. 

 

Some of the silk threadwork sarees showcase the skills of the craftsmen who use a different weaving type to create intricate patterns and designs. You can find beautiful brocades with laces and patterns as well. Silk threadwork sarees use other embellishments as well with pretty colourful embroidery, stone work ot even mirror work in some cases. But mainly you will find that these embellishments are done using only silk threads. While brocades are more common than other forms of weaving techniques, there are many other ornamentation styles that make up for the lack of a traditional zari. 

 

The subtlety of the silk thread work sarees ensure the silk sarees are sheer pieces of art and they have their own charm and grace. They retain the luxurious feel and the rich embellishments with eye catching designs and add a dash of flair and style to the traditional silk saree. In this technique, you can seamlessly weave in both motifs and designs along the border of the saree that blend in with the drape or stand out in contrast as well, Either ways, the Silk Thread Saree is not a pale comparison to the luxurious Kanchipuram saree with its traditional gold border but it has an appeal of its own. The silk threads enhance the look and have a unique touch which makes it very chic and contemporary and yet has a traditional flavour.
