How to Identify a Pure Organza Saree?

How to Identify a Pure Organza Saree?

Ever marveled at your favorite film star draped in a whisper-light, subtly shiny saree?

Chances are, it's an elegant organza silk saree.

Known for its sheer elegance and crisp texture, this grander and more elite-looking silk saree perfectly complements special occasions. It is loved for its soft yet structured drape, creating the perfect fusion of grace and sophistication in every fold.

The opulent appeal of organza makes them a tradition in every Indian wedding, festive celebration, and high-end party. Unfortunately, with a plethora of sarees online, the market is steeped with second copies and faux organza. To ensure you’re investing in a pure organza saree, here are 5 ways to identify pure organza silk over endless artificial organza.

What is Pure Organza Silk Saree?

Pure organza saree is exclusively woven from pure silk. It epitomes softness, gloss, and sophistication. They are handwoven tightly in two twisted silk yarns, making the saree crisp and sheer. Several second copies of organza are made using synthetic fibers like poly-viscose fabrics. But the pure organza particularly crafted with silk is way more expensive than the blended artificial organza. Let's see why the cost is too expensive from other silk.

Why Organza Silk Saree is Expensive?

Have you ever wondered why this contemporary saree is near the price of Kanchipuram silk? It is solely because of the following 3 reasons:

  1. Premium Silk: Generally, the prices of saree are marked based on the quality of the fabric. The high-quality fabric has premium prices. The Organza silk is handwoven using high-quality pure silk fabric, being the ultimate reason for its premium pricing as silk stands first in high-quality fabrics.

  1. Weave Technique: Firstly, two yarns are taken—one is twisted clockwise, while the other is twisted anticlockwise. Then these are twisted together to give a crisp and sheen texture to the fabric. Next, they are woven into a delicate organza saree using the plain weave method. This complex and cautious ( mindful while handling light silk threads) process is another major reason for its high pricing, as it involves intensive and laborious production.

  1. Intricate Designs: Most organza sarees feature exquisite craftsmanship, including jacquard patterns, brocades, intricate buttas, contemporary prints, and hand embroidery. Adding embellishments increases the production time and labor cost, resulting in premium pricing.

5 Best Ways To Identify a Pure Organza Silk Saree From Artificial:

  1. Burn Test: This is done to check the authenticity of the organza silk.

How to Do the Burn Test?

To identify whether the saree is pure organza silk or faux organza, pull a small thread or cut a tiny portion (if possible) from one end of the saree and fire it. If the thread emits a hair-burning smell and turns into ashes, it is 100 % genuine organza silk. If it emits a plastic-burning smell, it is a 100 % faked organza saree. Not just organza, this foolproof test applies to all silk fabrics to check their genuineness.

  1. Translucent Check: Another way to identify organza purity is by doing the translucent test. Most of us have often mistakenly referred to organza sarees as transparent fabric, but pure organza silk is never transparent. Instead, it is translucent—neither fully transparent nor too opaque. In contrast, an organza saree replica is transparent. When draped around the body, it appears glassy and highly reflective.

  2. Bouncy Test: Next is the bounciness and puffiness test. Take the organza saree and fold it. If the saree stays folded, it is real organza silk. In the case of a faux saree, it gets restorative (bounces back into irregular shapes). While draped in a pure organza saree, you will get structured pleats (stiffly staying in folds). A second-copy organza blend made from poly-viscose would be bouncy and make you look a little bouffant from your original shape.

  1. Shine Test: Next, test your organza saree based on its appearance. A pure organza saree should have a natural silk sheen, but second copies or faux organza reflect a more white shine.

  1. Price Check: The price of the saree is one of the ways to check its genuineness. Usually, original organza silk is more expensive than fake organza for several reasons, including pure silk fabric, intensive labor work, unique weave techniques, and intricate patterns. But the second copies, made of poly-viscose yarns, or other rough fabrics, are low-priced and affordable.

How to Wash Organza Silk Saree?

  1. You can hand wash the organza saree using cold water. Avoid the usage of hot water or a washing machine, as it can ruin the fabric and embellishments of the saree.

  2. Make sure to use a mild detergent to wash the saree. The heavy use of harsh detergents can again sabotage the fabric and may lessen its natural silk shine after repeated washes.

  3. Mix a small amount of detergent in cold water and soak the saree for 10-15 minutes. After soaking, wash gently without giving a harsh rub to maintain the softness and shinyness of the saree.

  4. Rinse the saree in cold water until all the remaining detergent washes away.

  5. Never wring harshly, as it might again cause damage to your saree. Instead, you can either gently squeeze or hang under the water tap to let the excess water out.

  6. Dry the saree in a shaded area without directly exposing it to sunlight. The sunray may fade out the color of the saree.

By following the above simple wash-care technique, you can maintain your saree's shine and texture for years.

How to Properly Store an Organza Silk Saree?

After giving it a gentle and proper wash, wrap it in a muslin or cotton cloth bag or place it in a storage box to keep it dust-free. Store it in a cool, dry place and away from moisture to prevent it from becoming stinky or moldy. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, as the rays will cause discoloration.

Conclusion:

Voila! We have now identified pure organza silk from artificial. Hope these five tips help you get the best organza silk in the market.

ALWAYS REMEMBER: When you plan to buy an organza silk saree online, choose an authorized seller who provides high-quality silk sarees with a silk mark. Buying from a trusted seller is more genuine, and there are fewer chances of being bamboozled.
