Paithani Sarees

The pride of Maharashtra’s weaving legacy, Paithani sarees are instantly recognisable thanks to elaborate pallus and borders crafted in pure gold zari. Raw silk threads soaked in natural dyes are woven in a simple overlap of warp and weft on a raised pitloom. The skill of the weavers is so advanced that the front and the back of a handwoven Paithani saree look the same.

The tonal contrast between the body of a handwoven Paithani saree and the border and pallu is another signature. The motifs are inspired by Nature and well as Maharashtra’s history; the craft was finessed under the Mughals and then the Peshwas, and the Ajanta Caves also offer a wide design repository. It’s said that a handwoven Paithani saree never loses its luster, which makes it the natural choice to light up an occasion.
