Dyed with natural ingredients such as myrobalan, Indian madder (manjistha) and mulberry leaves, this handwoven Kanchipuram silk saree glows like amber.
The honeyed colour of the body has been achieved by mixing three natural dyes - myrobalan and fenugreek in the warp and Indian madder in the weft. The dual tone perfectly shows off the kattam (checked) pattern with alternating vairam (diamond) and thuthiripoo (Indian mallow) motifs. The border features an innovative pattern of rudrakshams enveloped within Banaras stripes. Mulberry leaves have been used for the green stripes on the border, while the crimson tone comes from lac (arraku). These patterns occupy the centre of the pallu, where they are framed by arai madam (half diamond) panels in brilliant gold zari. Resplendent and regal, this saree is a lovely choice for the festive or wedding season.
